Messiaen Quartet for the End of Time
with Menucha Meinstein, author of My Eyes Looking Back at Me: Insight Into a Survivor’s Soul

Quartet for the End of Time is a piece of chamber music by the French composer Olivier Messiaen. It was premiered in 1941. The piece is scored for B-flat clarinet, violin, cello, and piano; the complete work lasts about 50 minutes. Messiaen wrote the piece while a prisoner of war in German captivity, and it was first premiered by his fellow prisoners. It has come to be recognized as one of his most important works. International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which is observed on January 27, 2018, is an international memorial day for the victims of the Holocaust. Holocaust is the genocide that resulted in the annihilation of six million European Jews as well as millions of others by the Nazi regime. The day was designated by the United Nations General Assembly Resolution on November 1, 2005.
