Carol Naveira-Nicholson is a founding member of the Miami Symphony and has been principal flutist since 1994. She was recently appointed principal flutist of the Florida Lakes Symphony Orchestra and also performs with the Miami Lyric Opera and Florida Chamber Orchestra. Over the past 20 years she has freelanced with the Miami International Piano Festival Orchestra, Miami City Ballet, Florida Grand Opera, Boca Pops and Palm Beach Pops, and was principal flutist of the Ashlawn Opera Summer Festival Orchestra, Charlottesville, VA, for four seasons. She is active in the local contemporary music scene with both orchestral and chamber performances including several world premieres.
Ms. Nicholson has a Bachelor of Arts degree and studied music performance at the University of Nevada/Las Vegas, as well as master classes with such noted flutists as William Bennett, Trevor Wye and Peter Lloyd, retired principal flutist of London Symphony, with whom she also studied individually. She has served on the artistic and administrative staff of the Greater Miami Youth Symphony as symphony manager and woodwind coach since 2010.
