Cherubini, Barber and Torrente

Luigi Cherubini (1760 – 1842) was an Italian Classical and Romantic composer. His most significant compositions are operas and sacred music. Beethoven regarded Cherubini as the greatest of his contemporaries. Samuel Barber (1910 – 1981) was an American composer, pianist, conductor, baritone,  and music educator, and one of the most celebrated composers of the 20th century. Music critic Donal Henahan said, “Probably no other American composer has ever enjoyed such early, such persistent and such long-lasting acclaim.” Born in Cuba, Al Torrente came to this country at age eleven and grew up in Miami, Florida, playing in bands as a guitar player as well as a trumpet player. After graduating from the University of Miami with a Theory and Composition degree, Mr. Torrente taught at the Berklee School of Music, Boston, Massachusetts, teaching Composition and Arranging. “As the Earth Burns” is a world premiere!
